Today

Just before 0100 GMT, the biggest earthquake in the UK for nearly 25 years shook homes across large parts of England. The epicentre of the 5.3 magnitude quake was near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire.

(A lot of my online students won't believe me when I say we do get earthquakes in the UK. Luckily there doesn't appear to have been any widespread destruction.)

  2. I'm sorry to hear this.

The UK has been lucky this time and they are a rare occurrence there too.

I remember hearing about the 1999 quake in Turkey, truly horrific.

  3. There has been very little damage here and only one injury that I know of.
You are right teacher, England rarely has earthquakes, but I think it is good for us; it reminds us of places like Turkey, and hopefully, we will appreciate our safety more.

I think we are so far removed from nature nowadays that we forget how powerful she is.
