Sky TV and BT Sport have paid £5.1 billion for the TV rights to the Premier League from 2016 to 2019. (Sky paid £4.2bn for five of the seven TV packages ( £11.07m per match), while rival BT paid £960m ( £7.6m per game) for the other two in a TV rights auction. Between 1992 and 1997 the whole lot cost £191 million. Does anyone else think this is obscene?)

Over the past 50 years, revolving restaurants have opened in more than 50 countries on six continents, from Colombia to Nepal to Canada. (London's revolving restaurant in the BT skyscraper, previously known as the Post Office Tower was supposed to reopen by 2012 in time for the Olympics. Unfortunately it doesn't look as if it is going to happen now. In fact, it has not been an eatery since 1980 when the the Top of the Tower venue, which was run by the Butlins companys (I kid you not) closed after 14 years. It was shut amid security fears after an IRA bomb exploded in the gents lavatories in 1971. Almost a third of BT payphones have been removed in the past six years. (In 2002, there were about 95,000 BT payphones across the UK, but 31,000 have been removed since then. The blame lies with the increased use of mobile phones.)
