Interesting Fact - Work

Image
According to a survey by the British Chiropractic Association (BCA) 1 in 10 Brits are walking from home - in bed! (19% work from the sofa on their laptop, but now chiropractors are warning against the impact this could be having on the health of their back. Now, as some of you know, I work from home, but I get up and go into the office when I'm running sessions.  PS - I am writing this on the sofa.) The BCA have put together a video on computer posture: http://www.chiropractic-uk.co.uk/For-You-89-Computer-Posture-119-ms.aspx

Interesting Fact - Housework

Image
According to a survey conducted by money saving website VoucherCodesPro, the average British man doesn't learn to cook until he's 27, and is 22 before he figures out how to make the bed. (It doesn't stop at cooking either; over 50% said they had not bothered learning as they did not need to know how to do the housework, and 39% said they had someone to do it for them.  It looks as if men are turning into Tamagotchis.)

Interesting Fact - Clothes

Image
According to a survey by Cotton USA, 23% of people hate it when their partner wears socks in bed. (The problem with that is according to Phyllis Zee, MD, PhD, professor at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, wearing socks in bed can help you fall asleep. Luckily I have no trouble sleeping, and I can't believe that only 23% of people hate it.)

Interesting Fact - Reading

According to a survey carried out by Littlewoods.com, only 33% of parents in the UK read their child a bedtime story. (Some parents said that their children would much rather watch TV, play with toys or computer games, but 13 per cent blamed lack of time for not reading to them and 9 per cent said they were 'too stressed'. I was read to regularly, and it was part of my bedtime routine, in fact three quarters of the parents surveyed said they were read to every night of the week as children.)

Interesting Fact - Beds

Image
According to a report called The Great British Bedtime Report, commissioned by the Sleep Council to mark National Bed Month, the average amount that people in the UK spend on a new bed is £583.05. (63% of Brits buy a divan bed, with king-size beds being the most popular, 31% chose this size, but some people spend up to £40,000, and for four years the world's most expensive bed was the Magnetic Floating Bed which has a price tag of $1.6 million. If you think that is a bit much, the title of world's most expensive bed now belongs to the Baldacchino Supreme. This rather pricey little number is made from chestnut wood and curving ash wood with a canopy with edges in cherry wood, it also features Italian silk and cotton, and contains 107 kg of solid 24ct gold, and the headboard can be customized with diamonds buttons. It was a limited edition of only 2 to be made. Price? £4,000,000.00.

Interesting Fact - Sleep

A study commissioned by home energy service Alert Me, shows that the average British family goes to bed at around 10.30pm. (I have to admit that this makes me Mrs Average.)

Interesting Fact - Health

According to Dr Arthur Tucker, principal clinical scientist at Barts’ vascular unit, up to a third of the weight of your pillow could be made up of bugs, dead skin, dust mites and their faeces. (In fact, up to 100,000 dust mites could be having a party in there right now, and you don't want to think about hospital pillows, which can have more than one million Staphylococcus hominus per millilitre, and what about hotel pillows! On a more positive note, leading bacteriologist Professor Hugh Pennington said not to worry as your pillows at home simply contain the bugs we already have. Well that's alright then - party on dudes.) Factoid Source

Interesting Fact # 756 - Beds

powered by ODEO According to a survey by the Sleep Council, many Brits check texts, surf the internet, or play games in bed. (I wonder what kind of games they actually meant.)
