Shock horror!  According to research published in the Journal of Global Fashion and Marketing, 82% of claims made in adverts for cosmetics are bogus. (Researchers found that only 18% of all claims made in commercials for cosmetics prove to be true.  They classified each claim as vague/ambiguous, an omission, an outright lie, or as acceptable. Every category of beauty products was looked at, including makeup, skincare, body and bath products, fragrance, along with hair, and nail care. Claims like:- "award-winning product" "clinically proven" "your skin feels softer" "your face looks younger" "dermatologists recommend this" "all you need for a day of confidence" and even:- “no testing on animals” Just to prove you can't believe them, here is a famous advert which definitely deserves a #fail:- What were they thinking?)

According to Entomologist Mark Greco, the stingless bee (Trigona carbonaria) in Australia 'mummifies' any parasitic interloper that can damage its hives. (The bee wraps the live parasite in resin, wax and mud until it can't move and leaves it to starve. It sounds like some kind of weird diet / beauty treatment to me.)

According to a study by Bionsen, women in the UK spend more than £100,000 on makeup in their life time. (That's a shade over £2000 during every year of adulthood, or nearly £40 in an average week. Who are these women? What on earth are they buying, gold dust?) Source - Daily Record

You can now buy a facial treatment which basically applies 24 karat gold onto your face. (Basically think of yourself as a picture frame and then have a load of gold leaf slapped onto your face. But be warned, it comes with a hefty price tag.)

According to New Woman magazine British women spend a whopping £3,000 a year on beauty products and treatments. (81 per cent of British women wear makeup every day. Yet again I buck the trend.)
