The album Abbey Road was nearly called "Everest". (This would have meant that one of the pop world's most iconic photos was nearly never taken, but the idea of schlepping up Everest for a photo shoot was abandoned, and on 8th August, 1969 the Fab Four walked out of No 3 Abbey Road, and whilst a policeman held up the traffic on Abbey Road, the photographer Iain Macmillan took photos as the band walked back and forth. Since then quite a few people have reproduced that moment, but with no friendly policemen around, they are taking their lives in their hands.)

10th July:- Is don't step on a bee day. It is also Beatles day (not beetles - The Beatles), who returned to Liverpool from their successful tour of America in 1964. A million public sector workers are set to go on strike in the UK today.  If you are in the UK, I'd stay at home if I were you.

Astronomers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, have discovered the largest diamond in the galaxy. It is 10 billion trillion trillion carats. (It measures 4,000 km across, and lies some 50 light-years from the Earth in the constellation Centaurus. It's actually a crystallised white dwarf, the compressed heart of an old star that was once bright like our Sun but has since faded and shrunk, and the carbon interior has solidified to form the galaxy's largest diamond. It is technically known as BPM 37093, but astronomers have decided to call it "Lucy" after the Beatles song, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. According to Travis Metcalfe, the leader of the team who discovered it, you would need a jeweller's loupe the size of the Sun to grade it.) Source: BBC News
