According to Internet analysts Kleiner Perkins, the U.S. is the sixth-worst nation when it comes to staring at screens. (At the top of the list is Indonesia, where people spend an average of 540 minutes, or 9 hours each day, followed by the Philippines, China, Brazil, Vietnam and in 6th place the USA. In the United States, people spend an average of 444 minutes every day looking at screens, or 7.4 hours. That breaks down to 147 minutes spent watching TV, 103 minutes in front of a computer, 151 minutes on a smartphone, and 43 minutes with a tablet. I wonder when it will be 18 hours a day because of Google glass.)  Source

The national flags of Indonesia and Monaco look identical. (The flags are equal stripes of red on top and white on the bottom, which funnily enough is also the flag of the state of Hessen in Germany.  I guess that's what comes of having such a simple flag.)

According to a study published in the journal Conservation Biology, up to one billion frogs are taken from the wild for human consumption each year. (France and the US are the two biggest importers, and Indonesia the largest exporter of frogs.)

Indonesia is made up of over 10,000 islands. (One of the smallest is called Run (aka Pulo Run or Puloroon), it is only 3 km long and less than 1 km wide. So, easy to run across then.) <p> </p>

In Indonesia, seemingly it's against the law to insult someone on Facebook. (A student, who shall remain nameless, referred to his marching band mentor as a "scoundrel" and "very greedy". He's ended up with a suspended six-month jail sentence - that's the student, not the greedy scoundrel. Just imagine if this law became popular in the UK or the US. Personally I think the student needed to be a bit wittier, and slightly more up to date. I like to read witty insults.)

According to a UN report; "Risk and Poverty in a Changing Climate", between 1990 and 2007, loss of life and property from weather-related disasters rose significantly. (Floods were the biggest single cause and developing countries, led by China, India, Bangladesh and Indonesia, suffered the biggest mortality in absolute terms, but in relation to population, the highest tolls were in Dominica, Vanuatu and Myanmar.)

A "lost world" exists in the Indonesian jungle that is home to dozens of hitherto unknown animal and plant species. (I vote that we leave it alone, now.)

According to the World Bank, the gross national income of the US is $37,870 per capita, in Indonesia it is $810 and in Niger just $200. ( Make Poverty History )
