According to Richard Black of the BBC, in the 17th Century Japanese whalers buried the foetuses of the pregnant whales they caught in a special graveyard facing out to sea. (In Nagato, Japan, they gave the whales killed Buddhist names. I just wonder how many of the species interred are now extinct.)

Whale vomit is used by perfumers, to whom it is known as ambergris, and it costs £11 per gram. (So, now you know what you're getting in that lovely expensive Valentine's Day present.) ;-)

Whales don't drink - they get their water intake from their food. (This snippet was learned due to the unfortunate demise of the whale in the Thames.)

Thirsty whalers (what you call people who kill whales) in the 19th Century used to kill tortoises for their urine. (Eeeeeew!  Which is most disgusting though?)
