14th April 2014 - 276 female students, who were sitting their final exams in the village of Chibook, Nigeria were abducted. Most are still missing.

2nd April 1932 - Charles Lindbergh left $50,000 in a New York City cemetery in hope of regaining his kidnapped son, Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr. Sadly the infant was later found dead. Bruno Hauptmann was convicted of kidnapping and murder and executed by electrocution on April 3, 1936.

According to the BBC of the 800 Britons registered as living in the Niger Delta, 33 have been kidnapped in the past year. (The percentages are staggering. The most recent case where a three-year-old British girl was kidnapped shows how bad it's become, she was the third child to be kidnapped in the last six weeks. Luckily she was reunited with her parents after being freed by her kidnappers, but they had held her for four days during which time the family went through hell.)

Two-thirds of the world's kidnappings occur in Colombia. (Nice to know that fact. Another destination to cross off my 'must visit' list.)
