4th October 1924 - Winnie-the-Pooh first appeared in the children's verse book, "When We Were Very Young".

18th January 1882 - A.A.Milne was born. (18th January is designated Winnie the Pooh Day in his honour. Yes the bear with little brain (aka the great philosopher) has his own day. And why not?)

Dr Rhys Morgan, a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering, has come up with a formula to help you choose the perfect stick for the popular British game of poohsticks. (The formula is - PP = A x ? x Cd PP = the perfect poohstick A =  the cross section area (the thicker the better) ? = the sticks density (the denser the better)  Cd = the drag coefficient describing the shape and roughness (the rougher the better)  So, it seems that Dr  Rhys Morgan claims the perfect way to win the game is to find something thick, dense and as rough as possible.  I would think any member of TOWIE would be a cert.)

I'll be honest, when I first heard of the poo bus, I thought of this guy:- However, this is actually about a bus that runs on gas generated through the treatment of sewage (real poo), and food waste that is unfit for human consumption. The Bio-Bus (Foto: GENeco) (A renewable and sustainable source of fuel, the bus can travel up to 300km on a full tank of gas generated at the Bristol sewage treatment works – a plant run by GENeco, a subsidiary of Wessex Water. Personally, I love the idea, and the humour of the advertising on the bus itself.)

The votes are in and Britain's favourite BBC children's character of all time is Shaun the Sheep. (Postman Pat came second and Sooty and Sweep third. The past winners were:- 1950s - Sooty and Sweep. 1960s - The Magic Roundabout 1970s - Paddington Bear (still my favourite, along with Winnie the Pooh) 1980s - Postman Pat (not forgetting his cat) 1990s - Bob the Builder (but he couldn't fix this vote) )

According to US wildlife biologist Lynn Rogers, bears don't like honey. (Even more shocking it seems they aren't even very keen on berries and nuts. So much for Winnie the Pooh then.)

80 years since the last one, a new Winnie-the-Pooh story is to be published. ("Return to the Hundred Acre Wood", written by David Benedictus, is to be released in Britain and the United States on October 5. Well, I've heard of milking the cow, but never of milking the bear.)
