2nd February 2007 - Hundreds of scientists who had taken part in a U.N.-sponsored study concluded in a report that human activity was to blame for global warming, largely through greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels.

According to the UK government's new chief energy scientist, Professor David MacKay, greenhouse gas emissions created by Britons are probably twice as bad as figures suggest. (The main reason for this is that developing countries manufacture the goods that Britain buys. It is increasingly difficult to "Buy British".)

Cattle are capable of producing 500 litres of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, every day. (The gas is produced mostly through belching, although the other end gets involved too.  Maybe we could harness all this energy to run our heating and cut down on global warming.)
