Interesting Fact # 538 - Global Warming

Antarctica's Southern Ocean is failing to soak up as much CO2 as it was expected to.

( An increase in Southern Ocean winds is being blames, but the bottom line is that in the future atmospheric CO2 levels may be even higher than predicted. I wonder if any of those gas guzzling RR owners owns a beach property.)

There still seems to be considerable debate within the scientific community whether global warming is actually occurring. Some parts of the planet are warmer, some cooler than 100 years ago. Let us for arguments sake say that it is happening and it is caused primarily by the presence of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. My question (and I don't think it is unreasonable) is what percentage does man make in comparison to natural phenomena? Is it 80%? 40%? 0.0001%? If it's the latter, nothing you, I or anyone else does to cut carbon emissions is going to make a scrap of difference. Are there any meaningful, unbiased (i.e not produced by environmentalists or industry) stats available that anyone has seen?

  2. To me, regardless of what is causing climate change, it just makes sense not to poison the only home we have.

Scary stuff! Anonymous above ought to realise that in addition to human emissions, we're also destroying rainforests which soak up CO2!
