The UK disposes of more than 27m tonnes of waste into landfill each year.

(This means that we use landfill for more household waste than any other EU state. Well it's nice to know we're top at something.)

    There's some funny stuff in the book Bears Can't Run Downhill (By Robert Anwood) about how the amount of rubbish created by the UK is enough to fill the Royal Albert Hall every hour! You should check it out
