1938 - Hungarian newspaper journalist Laszlo Biro with the help of his brother, a chemist, devised a pen tipped with a metal ball bearing that used capillary action to draw ink through the rotating ball.

(Yes, it's the humble biro.)

  2. What would it be called if it was? If it had been a member of my family we'd all be writing with a "Jones". Doesn't sound right, does it?
